Physical Activity
Our students are encouraged to be fit, healthy and active on a daily basis. We have a lot of playground equipment for students to play on during their recess and lunch times, including the new fitness course around the outskirts of the oval. We also equipment for the children to borrow for their outside time, such as tennis and cricket equipment, footballs, hoola hoops, bats and balls, skipping ropes etc. Our students have a total of 90 minutes of recess time per day and we encourage them to be active daily.
Perceptual Motor Program
The Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is aimed at our younger students and support children to develop and link gross and fine motor co-ordination, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and understanding of concepts, such as over, under, around. Our students in the Early Years have 30 minutes PMP each week.
Health and Physical Education
In 2012, Health and PE will be taken by our specialist teacher across all classes for one hour, and then for a second hour by our classroom teachers, with a whole school program and planning taking place each term. There will be dedicated times on the timetable for our classes to participate in PE classes. As with all areas of the curriculum, the Victorian Essential Learning Standards are used in our planning, teaching and assessment.
We continue to participate in the Melton Primary School Sports Association Interschool Sports competitions and Lightning Premierships.
